The Year: 2008

We picked up right where we left off in 2007. January brought about three structure fires over a two day period. The first was a fire at the Liberty Pines Condominiums, and that was followed by the Finney Street Extension and Hodge Avenue fires the very next day.

The Year: 2007

The year began with the Benz Street structure fire on January 4th and closed with the East Street fire on December 31st. In between, we saw several other memorable fires, including: the Grove Street fires in April; the Division Street fire and the Main Street strip mall fire in November; then the Russell Street and Westfield Avenue fires which occurred in December, just one day before the East Street fire on New Year's Eve.

The Latex Foam Fire

On May 14th, 2001, the City of Ansonia experienced the largest fire in its history. The Latex Foam factory was completely destroyed in a blaze that ravaged the 284,000 square foot plant. Hundreds of firefighters were called upon from Ansonia and twelve surrounding communities to fight the blaze at this ten acre complex. This eight alarm fire caused millions of dollars in damage to the West Main Street factory before it was done.
