At approximately 6:00
AM the Ansonia Fire Department was dispatched to a
reported structure fire on Birchwood Drive. Upon arrival
FM1 reported a working structure fire. Units immediately
went to work and had the bulk of the fire knocked down
relatively quickly. Unfortunately, the resident of the
home perished in the blaze.
The Bridgeport Sound
Tigers invited Eagle Hose back to the season finale
against the Hartford Wolfpack. The kids had the
opportunity to take part in some promotional events in
between periods. Unfortunately, Bridgeport lost in this
close fought battle.
Training at ARMS

participated in extrication drills at ARMS. Photos are

Facelift
There were a couple of
improvements made recently. The eagle has returned to
the top of the firehouse. Joe Matusovich and Pete
Marcinko refurbished most of the bird, and then it was
sent to Gabby's in Seymour for the finishing touches.
Also, two new signs were purchased from Flash Signs in
Beacon Falls, and mounted above each door.

Letter of
Commendation...or "Medal" of Valor?
Congratulations to
Eagle Hose member Joe Matusovich, who received a letter
of commendation for going above and beyond the call of
duty at the Sunny Knoll apartment fire on February 6th.
The
New Haven Register has all the details. This is
certainly a great honor in Joe's professional career,
but we're sure the letter of commendation pales in
comparison to the "medal" of valor he was presented with
the night of our Annual Meeting...
BIG CITY
Another month, another
featured photo in a major publication. The Bassett
Street fire, previously featured in Firehouse magazine,
is now featured in Fire Rescue magazine. And just as was
the case then, it is Keith Muratori's photos which are
featured in the publication. As you know, you can see
Keith's other photos on his website,
Fireground Images. Congrats once again Keith!!! It's
just like being in Detroit, eh Keith?

Structure Fire
February
1: The AFD is dispatched to 91 Jewett Street shortly
after 8PM for the report of smoke in the hallway of the
first floor. First arriving units found a working fire
which was quickly knocked down. Firefighter Lou Uvino
(pictured in photo taken by Ron Burgess Jr.) was not only on the initial attack line, but
also rescued a cat in the process. More photos from this
incident can be seen on Ron Burgess Jr's
website.

Keith
Muratori of Fireground Images hits the big time
again. For the second consecutive month his photos are
featured in a national magazine. He hit the cover of
Fire Engineering in January, and now his photos appear
in the February edition of Firehouse magazine. And for
the second consecutive month, the AFD is featured in one
of the photos. One of Keith's photos from the Basset
Street fire is featured on page 99 (see photo on the
middle of the page below).
